Maersk Training

Maersk Training offers state-of-the-art facilities and specialises in training for the offshore wind, oil and gas and maritime sectors.

As part of a well-regarded global brand, A.P Moller Maersk, Maersk Training strives to maintain an exceptional level of customer service that continues to support our reputation in the energy industry for quality and care.

Its innovative training centre contains highly-equipped modern facilities, offering a first class learning environment for both the practical and technical training necessary to ensure all work is undertaken safely and effectively. The training provides the essential skills and competencies required by wind farm owners, operators and other stakeholders within the industry.

With a dedicated education team, Maersk Training is committed to helping and supporting people who wish to retrain to work within the growing UK and overseas wind industry sector and prides itself on equipping local people with the skills needed to gain employment.

Recently, it offered a free or subsidised Level 2 Diploma in Staying Safe in the Wind Industry (Onshore and Offshore) course to unemployed people living in North Tyneside, designed to provide the essential mandatory skills required to work in the wind industry and to help them take advantage of job opportunities in the offshore wind energy market. The Diploma is taught by industry experts such as Paul Richards, an ex-army engineer who was hired by Maersk Training after he completed the Level 2 Diploma with flying colours.

The twelve week diploma course offers additional CV and employment support, working with industry and the individual, ensuring that the graduate receives the best possible opportunity to gain employment in the industry. Competencies include working in confined spaces, electrical awareness, working at height, manual handling, sea survival, first aid and fire awareness.

It’s this focus on life-skills that 33-year-old Michael Weightman believes was instrumental in his success in joining Windhoist as an electrician. He said: “From the beginning I was given guidance on how to create a CV, improve my interaction and interview techniques and shown how to enter the world of LinkedIn and networking. I believe this will be the beginning of a long and rewarding career within the renewable and wind industry.”

Jonny Chung, 27, who is US firm, Boston Energy’s latest wind turbine technician said: “The Maersk Level 2 Diploma operates over a twelve week period. It took just 10 weeks for Maersk to help me achieve my goal of starting a career within the renewable energy sector with a superior level of qualifications and competency.”

Stuart Cameron, UK Managing Director added: “Tough economic times mean unemployment rates are high in our region. Encouragingly, the offshore and wind energy sectors are expanding at a very fast pace, so there are great opportunities out there for people seeking employment. We are committed to helping those who are less financially able, improve their prospects, by gaining a valued qualification.”

Maersk Training trained 25,000 people in 2013, and more than 75,000 days of training across 10 training facilities, with delegates coming from as far away as Canada, Morocco, Australia and New Zealand.
