Advanced Industrial Solutions

Information

AISEstablished by North Shields-born entrepreneur Paul Stonebanks in 2007, AIS initially focussed on manufacturing, supplying and installing bespoke insulation products for the global oil and gas industry. It then quickly diversified into industrial training after strong customer demand.

On top of an 80 per cent increase in turnover and profits year-on-year, AIS has won numerous awards and has expanded from an initial team of two to more than 100 today.

The company now attracts more than 11,000 trainees every year to its state-of-the-art training village on North Tyneside. Over the past three years AIS has invested millions of pounds into creating a 150,000 sq ft training facility, which is one of the best equipped and most advanced globally, offering a portfolio of more than 100 specialised industrial training and competency courses. AIS further cemented its reputation on the global stage last summer when it captured the country’s attention after launching its state-of-the-art offshore survival centre.

The £2.5m centre on the trading estate has been designed to provide an extremely lifelike setting where workers learn survival techniques for emergency scenarios such as a helicopter ditching at sea, sea survival, escaping from a smoke filled environment and evacuating via a lifeboat. The centre also includes classrooms, changing facilities, a restaurant, meeting room, and more recently, a £1m hotel exclusively for trainees, which emulates offshore living.

Paul Stonebanks, managing director of AIS, said: “We’re committed to developing a competent and highly skilled workforce for industry both now and in the future. As well as investing heavily to create a unique location where people can get all the qualifications they need to work in the global energy sector, AIS is now looking at innovative ways to inspire and develop young future talent for industry. This ability to innovate and be the best at what we do has contributed to our massive growth over the past few years.

“However there’s no doubt that being based on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate has also played a part in our success. Just minutes from major transport links such as the A1, Newcastle Airport and the International Ferry Terminal, the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate is an excellent strategic location which enables us to easily service the UK and beyond. Because of this location we’ve also benefitted from lots of help and advice from North Tyneside Council. The council has a fantastic team which is very switched on to the needs of business – they’ve always been extremely supportive of AIS.”

AIS now has seven divisions: training, technical, project management & engineering, recruitment, software, direct and connect.
