People and Skills

North Tyneside’s workforce is one of its most important assets.

The local people are loyal, committed, highly skilled, adaptable, friendly, hard-working and productive, adding real value to a business as it grows.

With almost one million residents are located within a 30 minute drive, there is a vast pool of talented individuals to tap into, helping to drive your business forward.

One quarter of the local labour pool is educated to degree level and this figure continues to rise. Once qualified, around two-thirds choose to stay in the area to pursue a career, meaning businesses can recruit from a fresh wave of talented graduates, year after year.

We know how important it is for businesses to have access to a workforce with the right skills.

That is why we have established strong links between our business community and education and training providers, so that the skills needs of local businesses can be matched with training provision.

The result is that many of our schools and colleges already offer training tailored to emerging business sectors, and young people are equipped with the skills and qualifications that local businesses need.

For example, a new Energy Academy – located next to our enterprise zone site on the River Tyne – offers bespoke skills training for the renewables sector.

Our unique borough-wide Learning Trust, involving 34 schools, local employers and further and higher education institutes, works to improve education and training for young people.

In addition, Invest North Tyneside can offer support to recruit and train your workforce, including the recruitment of apprentices.

All of this means that North Tyneside is ahead of the game when it comes to workforce development, listening to businesses and helping them meet their people and skills needs.
